Robert Mitchell: A Proven Leader for Prince Edward Island

Robert's Story

Born and raised in the close-knit rural community of Fort Augustus, Robert Mitchell’s journey has been defined by service, community, and working hard for a living. From his early education at Fort Augustus Consolidated School and Charlottetown Rural High School to graduating from Holland College, Robert’s Island roots have shaped his deep commitment to public service and the well-being of all Islanders.

Prior to entering politics, Robert built a successful career in the private sector. Robert has spent most of his life working as a Lineman with Maritime Electric. Through his time in the trade, he traveled across Prince Edward Island making sure Islanders had reliable access to electricity. Robert has also traveled through North America supporting communities to get reconnected after major weather events.

He also owned a small business in Charlottetown and for a short time worked in real estate helping families find homes. Recently, Robert continued his leadership in the business world, becoming General Manager of H-Line Enterprises, a powerline construction company serving Atlantic Canada. Combining his experience as a Lineman and as a small business owner.

Robert proudly served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2020. During his time in the provincial legislature, he took on some of the province’s most critical roles in Cabinet. In each role, he brought steady, people-first leadership, championing policies that supported healthy communities, sustainable development, and responsible government.

A long-time volunteer with the Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club, he continues to lend his time and energy to causes that make a difference for Islanders. Robert and his wife, Bonnie, live in Sherwood and are the proud parents of four adult children—Ryan, Jordan, Brandon, and Megan—and loving grandparents to seven grandchildren. His dedication to family and community is the foundation of his leadership.

Robert was elected Leader of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party on October 4, 2025. His campaign was rooted in Island-grown solutions based on compassion, stability and common sense. Robert is for all Islanders.
