Robert Mitchell: A Proven Leader for Prince Edward Island

Robert's Story

Born and raised in the close-knit rural community of Fort Augustus, Robert Mitchell’s journey has been defined by service, community, and results. From his early education at Fort Augustus Consolidated School and Charlottetown Rural High School to graduating from Holland College in 1983, Robert’s Island roots have shaped his deep commitment to public service and the well-being of all Islanders.

Robrert proudly served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2020. During his time in the provincial legislature, he took on some of the province’s most critical leadership roles, including Minister of Health and Minister of Communities, Land and Environment. In each role, he brought steady, people-first leadership, championing policies that supported healthy communities, sustainable development, and responsive government.

Prior to entering politics, Robert built a successful career in the private sector, working with Maritime Electric, co-owning a local stone business, and helping families find homes as a real estate agent in the Charlottetown area. After stepping away from public office, he continued his leadership in the business world, becoming General Manager of H-Line Enterprises, a powerline construction company serving Atlantic Canada. Robert remains an active and engaged member of his community.

A long-time volunteer with the Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club, he continues to lend his time and energy to causes that make a difference for Islanders. Robert and his wife, Bonnie, live in Sherwood and are the proud parents of four adult children—Ryan, Jordan, Brandon, and Megan—and loving grandparents to seven grandchildren. His dedication to family and community is the foundation of his leadership.

As he seeks the leadership of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party, Robert brings with him experience, compassion, and a commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive province for all. Robert is for all Islanders.
