I had the honour of being elected alongside Robert Mitchell, and in those early days, we shared an office. From the very beginning, it was clear to me that Robert was a natural leader. He’s hardworking, honest, and driven by a deep sense of responsibility to the people he served. Over the years, I watched him in action as he tirelessly supported his constituents and brought real compassion and integrity to everything he did. Robert connects with people in a way that few can, and he brings both experience and heart to the table. The PEI Liberal Party will be in good hands with Robert as Leader, and I’m proud to offer him my full support.

Where do I begin? I’ve known Robert since he was a young man growing up in Fort Augustus. Raised in a big family with five sisters, he learned compassion, respect, and how to love your neighbour, qualities that shaped the man he is today. To be a good leader, you first need to be a good person—and Robert is one of the best. He’s an ordinary Islander who understands the needs of ordinary people. Warm, approachable, and grounded, he relates to Islanders from all walks of life. His strong sense of family, proven leadership, and deep community roots position him for success, not just as Leader of the PEI Liberal Party, but as our next Premier, if we are all so lucky.

I've known Robert Mitchell for over 18 years, and had the privilege of serving alongside him in government from 2007 to 2015. Robert is one of the hardest working and most genuine people I know, up front, dedicated to his family and community, and deeply committed to public service. He’s a proven leader, a true team player, and someone who can relate to people of all ages. Robert brings the experience, compassion, and approachability we need in a leader. I’m proud to endorse him for Leader of the PEI Liberal Party.

When I first stepped into the world of provincial politics, I was full of passion but unsure how to turn that passion into real change. I didn’t know the rules of the game or how to navigate the tough conversations at the cabinet table. Rob Mitchell was already a respected voice at that table, and when he saw I needed support, he didn’t hesitate to step in.

A mentor, a friend, and a steady hand when I needed it most. Rob never hesitated to lend a hand or his influence when it mattered. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned about him, it’s that he stands his ground when it counts.

Challenges don’t shake him—they strengthen his resolve. When the road gets tough, Rob doesn’t turn back—he rolls up his sleeves and finds a way forward. He taught me one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned in public service: politics is about each and every Islander. It’s about walking the streets, listening to the voices that often go unheard, and standing up for those who need a champion. That’s the kind of leader Rob is. Genuine. Steady. Grounded in his values. And that’s exactly the kind of Premier we need right now, someone who will meet tough times with calm strength and lead us toward a brighter, more hopeful future. Leadership that listens. Strength that delivers. Hope that inspires. Rob Mitchell is the leader PEI needs now.

As project coordinator for a watershed NGO dependent on project-based government funding, I’ve worked with politicians from all parties, federally and provincially, for over 30 years- some good, some not so good. In my experience, Robert Mitchell set the bar by which others should be measured. As past chair of the PEI Watershed Alliance, I had the privilege of working with Robert during his time as Minister of Environment, including on the landmark Water Act. While we didn’t always agree, his openness to listen, his clear communication, and his genuine willingness to engage without a predetermined outcome were unmatched. His door was always open, and I never waited more than a day for a call back. a rarity in politics. I can think of no better person to lead our province forward as Premier.

I’ve known Robert, Bonnie, and the entire Mitchell family for more than 25 years. The Mitchells are true community leaders, and everyone knows the legendary Mitchell family volunteer team. I had the privilege of serving alongside Robert in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island for three terms.

One thing was always clear: if Robert Mitchell looked you in the eye, shook your hand, and said he would do something, you could count on it. He’s loyal, he cares deeply about people’s well-being, and it’s hard to outwork him.

Robert is exactly the kind of leader the Liberal Party needs to lead us to success

Robert Mitchell has been a longtime colleague and friend, and I have had the privilege of witnessing his political growth and leadership firsthand. He brings the experience, energy, and enthusiasm needed to address the many challenges that are being left behind and ignored by the current Conservative administration. From a health care system in disarray, to the absence of a stable and sustainable energy network capable of meeting the needs of a growing population, Robert understands the pressing issues facing Islanders. He also recognizes the urgent infrastructure demands of a province soon to reach over 200,000 residents. From improving cell service and strengthening our highways, roads, and bridges, to ensuring safe and efficient transportation networks. As a grandfather of young children, Robert is deeply committed to expanding access to quality child care across PEI.

Having grown up in Fort Augustus, he also has a strong appreciation for the needs of rural Islanders and their resilient communities. He knows firsthand the importance of sustaining local organizations, services, and industries such as agriculture, fishing, and tourism. Industries that are the backbone of our province.

For these reasons, I, Robert Henderson, MLA for O’Leary-Inverness, am proud to offer my full support to Robert Mitchell as the next Leader of the PEI Liberal Party and our future Premier on October 4th, 2025.

As a former Deputy Minister, I had the honour and privilege to work with all MLAs and Cabinet members. I would describe Robert as respectful, hard working and passionately committed to ensuring the voices of his constituents were raised and heard.

As the former Liberal Leader, I would say that I had the opportunity to meet with many agencies and community organizations who expressed their admiration for Robert. He brought forward legislation which, at its core, would enhance the quality of life for all Islanders. We and they remember that as his legacy. In politics everything is about timing.

Robert made it clear in 2019 that his departure was short term and that he had every intention to return and make a strong and meaningful contribution to the Liberal Party. My friends, this speaks to a man of great vision and commitment to a promising future.

Through these times of uncertainty globally, nationally and provincially, we need a solid leader who is visionary, reliable, kind, and experienced. Robert Mitchell is my choice for the Liberal Leadership.

Robert is the right person to lead the PEI Liberal Party into a brighter future. While Robert’s years of service as both an MLA and cabinet minister have given him valuable experience in government, the time that he has spent outside of that “bubble” has also given him important perspective and experience to take back to the Legislature.

He is someone with a strong commitment to public service who leads by example and ensures that all voices are heard around decision-making tables. Islanders are lucky to have someone like Robert who sees the potential of this province and is ready to put in the hard work necessary to deliver real, positive change for our communities from tip to tip.
